Research Interests

I am interested in the genetic basis of traits and the selective mechanisms causing adaptation, particularly in the context of immunity and life history. To study these topics I am using the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster as a model organism, which is a powerful system due to its well-described genome and the availability of functional genetic tools.

In my current work, I am combining next-generation sequencing with population genetics, statistical methods and functional genetic validation to understand how polymorphisms, genes and molecular pathways influence resistance to viruses in Drosophila species. Due to the strong conservation of the innate immune system across multiple taxa, studying the molecular underpinnings of pathogen resistance in insects could help to identify general mechanisms of immunity.
