Research Interests

Hannah is performing a genome-wide association study to identify polymorphisms in Drorosphila melanogaster that affect susceptibility to DAffSV. DAffSV is a sigma virus that naturally infects Drosophila affinis, so we are interested in whether genes that control resistance to this virus are the same as those that affect resistance to DMelSV, the sigma virus that naturally occurs in Drosophila melanogaster populations. As we know that DMelSV ccan rapidly evolve to overcome genetic resistance in the host population, we hope that this approach will allow us to identify resistance genes that are no longer effective - the "ghosts of coevolution past".
